blue right-pointing arrow The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project Initiative II - The International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Initiative II is a collection of global data sets compiled to support energy, water and biogeochemical cycling studies. As new datasets become available from the various data providers, they are placed here to be used in a broad range of interdisciplinary studies. The data sets are organized into six broad categories: Vegetation, Hydrology and Soils, Snow, Sea Ice and Oceans, Radiation and Clouds, Carbon, and Near-surface Meteorology. The datasets that will be compiled for ISLSCP Initiative II will cover the period from 1986 to 1995 and will be available on a consistent global grid at 1/4, 1/2, and 1 degree spatial resolutions.  [keywords: Global Datasets, Biophysical Parameters, Satellite remote sensing, global modeling,ISLSCP, GEWEX] (Added: 2-Oct-2000 Hits: 766)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder (TOVS) Starter Kit - Fundamental meteorological parameters such as atmospheric temperature, humidity, cloud properties and surface properties can be continuously measured by earth-orbiting satellites. By placing a satellite in a polar sun synchronous orbit, most of the entire planet can be sampled on a daily basis, but some areas will be missed between successive orbits, particularly However, with averaging of the data over five days and over a month almost complete coverage on a 1 degree latitude by 1 degree longitude is available. This data provides a means to investigate long-term climate change and interannual variability of important meteorological quantities. It is also useful for studying local and/or periodic phenomena such as precipitation patterns, sea surface temperature anomalies (e.g., El Nino) and stratospheric warmings, to name a few.  [keywords: Data Sets, TOVS, TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder] (Added: 23-May-1999 Hits: 797)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow Visible Earth: EOS Images -   MISSION The purpose of NASA's Visible Earth is to provide a consistently updated, central point of access to the superset of NASA's Earth science-related images, animations, and data visualizations. These images are considered to be public domain and, as such, are freely available to the interested public-at-large, the media, scientists, and educators for re-use and/or re-publication.  [keywords: EOS, Earth, Images, Data] (Added: 23-May-1999 Hits: 3316)  [Spider Link] pop
