blue right-pointing arrow Geoscience Laser Altimeter (GLAS) - GLAS (the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System) is the first laser-ranging (lidar) instrument for continuous global observations of Earth. From aboard the Ice Cloud and Elevation Satellite (ICESat) spacecraft, it will make unique atmospheric observations, including measuring ice-sheet topography, cloud and atmospheric properties, and the height and thickness of radiatively important cloud layers needed for accurate short term climate and weather prediction.  [keywords: GLAS, EOS, satellite laser altimeter, ice-sheet, topography] (Added: 9-Jun-1999 Hits: 1024)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow Laser Altimeter Processing Facility (LAPF) - The Laser Altimeter Processing Facility (LAPF) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is dedicated to processing and distributing data products acquired by experimental airborne and spaceborne laser altimeters developed within Goddard's Laboratory for Terrestrial Physics. The LAPF has been established to support NASA's Topography and Surface Change Program, Natural Hazards Program, and other Solid Earth Science research activities. The LAPF is developing algorithms and methodologies for processing experimental surface lidar and wide-swath scanning systems.  [keywords: LAPF, laser altimeter, topography] (Added: 24-Jun-1999 Hits: 870)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow Surtsey Topography - Ray-traced perspective views of the topography of Surtsey, an island centered at 63 18'N, 20 36'W, off the coast of Iceland. Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) scanning laser altimeter swaths collected on 22 July 1998 from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility P3 aircraft were used to develop a 3 m spatial resolution digital elevation model or DEM, on top of which a scanned version of the National Land Survey of Iceland August 1998 vertical aerial photograph has been draped.  [keywords: Code 921, ATM, DEM, Iceland] (Added: 24-Jun-1999 Hits: 1023)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow Wallops Flight Facility GLAS Support - This web site, maintained by the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) Software Development Team (SDT), supports the GLAS Science Team to develop GLAS software which produces Level 1 and Level 2 data products. The GLAS instrument is on the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat).  [keywords: GLAS, Icesat, Laser Altimeter, Wallops Flight Facility, WFF] (Added: 20-Aug-1999 Hits: 1214)  [Spider Link]
