blue right-pointing arrow MODIS Glaciers - A glacier is an accumulation of ice and snow, originating on land, that moves under its own weight in response to gravitational force; it transports ice from an area of accumulation to an area of disposal (Sharp, 1988). Precipitation in the form of snow adds mass to the system while mass is removed through various ablation processes including surface melting, sublimation and calving of icebergs. The motion of the glacier redistributes the mass inputs and outputs in an attempt to reach an equilibrium state.  [keywords: MODIS, glaciers] (Added: 23-Feb-2006 Hits: 86)  [Spider Link]
blue right-pointing arrow Wallops Flight Facility GLAS Support - This web site, maintained by the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) Software Development Team (SDT), supports the GLAS Science Team to develop GLAS software which produces Level 1 and Level 2 data products. The GLAS instrument is on the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat).  [keywords: GLAS, Icesat, Laser Altimeter, Wallops Flight Facility, WFF] (Added: 20-Aug-1999 Hits: 1214)  [Spider Link]
