NASA Seasonal-to-Interannual Prediction Project (NSIPP) - The mission of NSIPP is to use remotely-sensed observations to enhance the predictability of ENSO and other major S-I signals and
their global teleconnections. Their primary goals are to develop a coupled initialization and forecast system using satellite and in situ
data in conjunction with general circulation models of the coupled ocean- atmosphere- land- surface- sea- ice system and to
demonstrate the effectiveness of this system through experimental prediction.

Ocean AVHRR Pathfinder Project - The Ocean AVHRR Pathfinder Project is a joint NASA/NOAA venture to reprocess global AVHRR data for all available AVHRR data and produce global sea-surface
temperatures at a 9km x 9km resolution for the years 1980 to the present. The processing path is being defined at the University of Miami, in consultation with a six
person science working group. The product generation and distribution is handled by the Physical Oceanography DAAC at JPL.

Physical Oceanography Group Homepage - The physical oceanography group in the Oceans and Ice Branch uses both models and data to study many aspects of ocean
circulation in the context of earth systems dynamics. In particular, since the ocean and atmosphere are strongly coupled and
their interaction moderates climate change, interannual phenomena such as el Nino are investigated through a coupled
ocean-atmosphere-land-sea-ice model.
The long term goals of the physical oceanography group include the exploitation of satellite data with ocean models to
produce reliable fields of the ocean structure.
